MADAM, In the July 30th edition of the Ross Gazette, the British Legion said they had an on-going project to trace relatives of the men named on the War Memorial. In the Gazette's special supplement that week there is a picture of Charles and Dorothy Cook. Dorothy Cook was my mother. She married in 1939 and had four daughters – I am the eldest. She died in 2003. She had 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one of whom is named Charles Edward after his great great grandfather. Her youngest daughter, Christine, still lives in Ross. My husband and I took our youngest son to France to visit his great grandfather's grave in 1995. As a child I was taken to see the War Memorial in the Prospect and was proud to see my grandfather's name engraved there.
