Two local youngsters took part in naming a new fleet of recycling and waste collection lorries.

Herefordshire Council and its waste and recycling partner FCC Environment have announced the winners of a very special competition for primary school pupils to name the new fleet of 28 recycling and waste collections lorries.

The fleet includes two brand new, state of the art eCollect all-electric collection vehicles that are in action to collect our recyclable material and help us all to be more ‘clued up’ about what we can recycle from home.

Thomas Stanyer a pupils of Lea Primary School named his lorry as Rexy while Isaac Brown, who attends Gorsley Goffs named his machine as the Binenium Falcon.

Cllr Elissa Swinglehurst, cabinet member environment, said: “We are delighted to have been able to ask primary school children from across the county to help us name our amazing new recycling and waste collection lorries. It was a great opportunity for our young people to think creatively over the Easter holidays as well as giving us all a chance to get ‘clued up’ about what we can all recycle from home.”

The competition was open to the age groups of three to five years; six to seven years and eight to 11 years.

All entrants were tasked with coming up with a cracking creative name for one or more lorry.

Other names chosen include Ronald the Recycler, The waste wizard, Gretta Garbage, Chitty Chitty bin bin and Binderella.

Each successful entrant was invited to attend the FCC Environment depot in Hereford to meet some of the lorries in person and meet with some of the people who look after, manage, drive and collect our recycling and waste in them.

Entrants were able to have their picture taken with their winning name and get their own competition winner certificate to take home.
