The days when you popped into Woolworths if you needed anything for your home have long gone and now the actual store has closed its doors in Ross for the last time.
It was a strange day on Tuesday, December 30th when crowds of smiling shoppers flocked to purchase some last minute bargains from assistants who were facing a very uncertain future.
The staff kept cheerful and helpful until closing time but a few tears were shed in private.
Many of the customers also added how sorry they were to see the store close. Several talked about the days when newly married couples purchased everything they needed for their new home from the store as well as the lastest chart topping records, sweets and toys.
The first British Woolworths opened in Church Street, Liverpool on Friday November 5th 1909, so this year would have been the store's centenary.
