MADAM, Contrary to what Herefordshire Council said in the article on page three of the Ross Gazette last week, Hereford has now repeatedly insisted that this scheme does not even include the Small Brook watercourse behind Morrison's supermarket—the stream nearest the town. So it can hardly be said to have stopped flooding in Ross.

Most of the 'cock-ups' (apart from the incorporation of Sutton's carpet shop) were already in being when Councillor Wilcox took over in October 2005. But we must thank him for keeping a cool head through the actual catastrophe. We went back in geological time to the age of fish with our eyes shut and got our bums spanked for it.

The 'bypass tunnel' and the 'flood storage area' do the same job for opposite religions — one takes the water to the river and the other keeps the same water out of it.... But it's somebody else's money!

However, Councillor Gordon Lucas perseveres with the neglected and still unresolved problem of the flooding in the town and, with a bit of encouragement, he will eventually arrive at a cure for it.
