The Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, Nigel Gibbs, lead a special Commonwealth event in the Market Place today, Monday, March 12th, where he was joined by local schoolchildren.

The Commonwealth flag was raised and children planted flags from the countries of this unique group of nations to mark their unity.

Pupils from Ashfield Park School Council in Year 3 to 6 were joined by younger pupils from St Joseph's School.

Joyce Thomas DL and Paul Deneen DL, the Head Boy and Head Girl at John Kyrle High School, representatives of Herefordshire Council and Ross-on-Wye Town Council, as well as members of the Royal British Legion, were joined by members of the public for the short but uplifting ceremony.There will be more pictures in this week's Ross Gazette.
