Madam, My story is set in wartime Britain, our family lived

in The Royal Forest of Dean.

I was sent there with my mother while my father

remained in Bristol, the city of my birth, designing aircraft

engines. I lived for each weekend, when dad would arrive

home, I was his shadow from the time he arrived until he

left - maybe this is what prompted him to send me to

boarding school!

Off to The Golden Anchor in Gloucester I went, to be

outfitted from top to toe in something dad explained to

me was called a uniform. "Only a bit of a dot isn't she?"

was the unfortunate remark from the man who waited on

us. This was an understatement, Dad had to stuff my hat

with The Citizen to make it fit. "Well your yud be filled

with knowledge a'right now Elizabeth Ann." was my

Granny's remark. And so it was that I made my entrance

into St. Joseph's.
