AN actor from Weston Under Penyard is a cast member with the X-entricity Theatre Company, a local charity that puts on musical theatre shows at The Courtyard Theatre in Hereford, twice a year.

The show this October is ‘Come From Away’, which focuses on events that happened in Gander, Newfoundland, at the time of the terrorist’s attack on the World Trade Centre in New York on September 11, 2001.

Kate Kerry said: “I’m playing the part of Beulah Davies, in what is a true story, and I feel it’s such a heartwarming, feel good show.

“We are currently in full-on rehearsals, and I feel the show is coming on fantastically well.”

The X-centricity’s cast of just 14 actors will play around 70 characters, which involves a lot of choreography, costume changes and an impressive amount of furniture moving.

Come From Away tells the remarkable true story of the 7,000 airline passengers who suddenly found themselves stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, when US airspace closed following the events of the terrorist attack.

What happened next is extraordinary. The people of Gander opened their homes, schools, churches and community centres to complete strangers, feeding them, caring for them and helping them through five unforgettable days.

Friendships were formed, cultures collided and, somehow, out of an incredibly difficult situation came a story of heartwarming kindness, generosity and hope.

The 14 chairs and three tables transform into aeroplanes, buses, cafés, bars and more.

Getting everything into precisely the right place at precisely the right time has become known by the cast as ‘chair-ography’.

Add in a brilliant Celtic-infused folk-rock soundtrack, the production of Come From Away is being staged at The Courtyard Theatre from Tuesday, October 20 to Saturday, October 24, with curtain up at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday. Tickets are priced at £22–£25.
