PASSENGERS across Herefordshire will be able to benefit from the national £2 bus fare cap from January after both of the county’s main operators confirmed they will take part.

Yeomans Travel has now given written confirmation that it will join the scheme, according to Buses4Us CIC and Rail & Bus for Herefordshire.

The announcement follows earlier confirmation from Sargeants Bros that it would also participate, meaning services operated by both companies are set to be covered when the cap begins in January 2027.

Campaigners welcomed the commitments, saying the move would help make bus travel more affordable for passengers across Herefordshire, including people relying on rural services.

In a joint statement, Buses4Us and Rail & Bus for Herefordshire said: “We thank both Yeomans Travel and Sargeants Bros for their decision to take part and their commitment to affordable bus travel.

“Their participation means passengers across the whole of Herefordshire can look forward to the £2 fare cap when it starts in January 2027.

“Buses4Us and Rail & Bus for Herefordshire look forward to seeing the benefits reach the people who depend on these services every day.”

Buses4Us was formed after bus services linking Ross-on-Wye, Newent and Ledbury were cut in 2022, ending connections which had operated for more than 70 years.

The community group subsequently worked with councils, businesses and supporters to establish the 232 Daffodil Line, reconnecting towns and villages across south Herefordshire and north-west Gloucestershire.

Rail & Bus for Herefordshire campaigns on behalf of passengers using public transport within the county and on regional and national routes.

The organisation also works with Herefordshire Council, MPs, parish councils, train operators and other passenger groups to support improvements to bus and rail services and infrastructure.

The confirmation gives passengers certainty ahead of the scheme and follows campaigning for affordable transport.
