THE ‘picturesque potholes of Herefordshire’ have been captured and celebrated in a church’s fund-raising calendar, which has recently gone on sale.

The congregation and officials at How Caple Church have produced a 2027 calendar which features colour photographs of just some of the axle-bending craters in our county’s roads.

Church organist Lois Letts said: “I drove into so many potholes last winter that I decided to do something positive about the blasted things.

“The calendar is a reminder that when your car is banjaxed by a pothole and you are waiting to be rescued; you should at least have some beautiful countryside to appreciate.”

Mrs Letts, 61, has ‘lost count’ of the number of suspension and tyre repairs needed on her 2013-reg Vauxhall Insignia as she drives from church to church.

The potholes include monsters from Stoke Lacy, Fawley, Hoarwithy, How Caple and Sollers Hope, among other places.

All profits raised from the £12 calendar (£15 with postage and packing via 07825770439) will go to How Caple church.

The calendar is dedicated to ‘the stalwart pothole-repairer teams at Herefordshire Council who do their best’.

It adds: ‘This calendar is no criticism of them or their work. We hope it merely shows the task they face, and something of the beauty of the county in which we live and worship.”

Cllr Barry Durkin, Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet member for roads and regulatory services at, said earlier this year: “We have redoubled our efforts to fix defects on our network as and when they are reported to us.

“Whilst repairing potholes forms part of our routine maintenance programme, we have also invested over £11million in the past year to resurface our very worst roads and surface dress those that are at risk of significant deterioration in the short to medium term.”
