MADAM, Your report of the meeting of September 15th about the proposed housing development at Hildersley leaves us with the impression that the Herefordshire Council is failing utterly to communicate. In fact some would have us believe that this must be deliberate, with the intention of making it easier to ignore the public.

I offer no opinion in this matter. But it might have helped if strangers to these parts could appreciate that this issue is of just as much, if not more interest to folk in Ross proper as it is to those in Ross Rural; regardless of arbitrary lines on the map. It would also have been better understood if it had been managed by local councillors, known to local folk, as it once was.

I note, in passing that the Herefordshire Council itself was constituted on wayward bits of paper, at similar obscure gatherings, and that it is going to have to work hard to get out of its rut.
