Local dance group, Wye Not Dance?, have recently returned from the UKDC European Dance Championships with a collection of awards and trophies. On Friday, May 3rd, Louise Stephens, the Wye Not Dance? teacher, her troop of dancers and their dance mums headed to the annual two-day competition.
The dancers, aged between 10 and 12, were involved in solo competitions, partner dances and Pro-Am dances. John Howard received first place in the male division and is still the European Champion, achieving all Golds in his dances.
In the female division, Morgan Lee received 2nd place, Grace Lerego received 6th place and Taylor Fowler received 7th place. In the junior partner dances, Grace Lerego and Morgan Lee took first place in both their dances and in the Pro Am Morgan Lee placed 1st, Grace Lerego placed 3rd and Taylor Fowler placed 4th.
Hannah Wardale danced in the newcomer division this year receiving a medal for her dancing but for the new competition year she will be moving into the female category alongside her fellow dancers.
The group qualified for the Championships by attending regional competitions throughout the year. Louise said that she is immensely proud of everyone who has competed, their dedication and practice has paid off. The dance group fundraised as much as they can to pay for their competition entries and transport to venues.
