JOHN Kyrle High School has brought together community leaders and organisations in a bid to create new opportunities for young people across Ross-on-Wye.
The school and sixth form centre hosted a special community breakfast on Friday, October 2, attended by the Mayor, county councillors, governors, trustees and representatives from Ross-on-Wye Lions Club, Ross-on-Wye Rotary Club and West Mercia Police.
Guests began the morning by joining the school’s weekly “Fab Friday” celebration, where staff recognise successes across John Kyrle, including its recent national recognition through a Holiday Activities and Food Award.
Visitors then had breakfast with members of the Sixth Form Student Leadership Team before students and staff led tours of the school.
The tours included the Haven, Hub, Hive, Student Support Centre, school gardens, refurbished Sixth Form Centre and Technology Department.
Discussions focused on how organisations across the area could support young people and help remove barriers to success, with several groups expressing an interest in becoming involved in future projects.
Headteacher Dr Luke Moseley said schools thrived when they were “at the heart of their communities”.
He said: “By working together, we can create more opportunities for our young people, broaden their horizons and help them develop the confidence and resilience they need for the future.”
The school also outlined its longer-term vision for a Charitable Foundation and an Inclusion and Wellbeing Campus, including plans for a Wellbeing Studio providing additional support for students and families.
Paul Deneen OBE, chair of governors, said the strength of feeling towards supporting John Kyrle had been clear throughout the event.
He added that organisations had offered practical support and explored ways of contributing to future projects.
School leaders said the morning demonstrated the strength of support across Ross and a shared commitment to helping every young person flourish in the years ahead.
