Ross Penyard Singers and their loyal audience recently enjoyed a fantastic evening of music, very ably led by their new Musical Director, Peter Johnson. The concert was titled, “When Handel Came to Town”, and the choir performed ten choruses from some of Handel’s most popular works, including Messiah and Acis and Galatea.
In a programme that had been devised by the previous Musical Director, John Frith (who was in attendance at the concert with his wife, Pam), several members of the choir delighted the audience with solo numbers and duets, and in one case a trio of singers. The choir were lucky to be supported by some wonderful musicians, including Wynne Harries on the oboe, who gave an outstanding performance during the Oboe Concerto that began the second half of the programme.
An audience of over 100 people came to enjoy the evening and to help raise funds for the choir’s chosen charity for 2018, Ross Meeting Centre, which provides support for people with dementia and their carers. Many members of the audience commented on how much they had enjoyed their evening, and that they were looking forward to the next concert.
This will be held on 25th May next year, again at The Venue, and will feature music on the theme of Spring. Rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, January 9t at the choir’s new rehearsal venue, Christ Church, Edde Cross Street, and will run from 7pm to 9pm.
The Penyard Singers is a non-auditioning choir and new members are always welcome, so you are welcome to attend a rehearsal and give it a try.
