Regime change possible

Madam, This week I was disgusted to find political garbage already wrapped round a Hereford newspaper and it brought to mind Scipio Africanus, the chap who beat Hannibal, who once said that: 'a multitude is ever found to be what its leaders and counsellors are'. I take the view that this is enough to explain a rising crime rate.

Everybody knows that our illegal wars have lately been costing us too much money; but the United Nations has a problem when it comes to miscreants with a veto under article 27 of its charter, because it can be prevented from taking any action.

However, I have come to realize that ordinary decent folk do have a means of punishing breaches of international law, if they are determined enough and refuse to be confused by their politicians. They only have to concentrate their minds on the single big issue at the expense of the lawless and international to ignore all the temptations being dangled in front of them. Anything not having to do with the avoidance of the real evil must wait. They need to talk to each other, to establish how they are being misled, and then to consign their ghastly deceivers to political oblivion.

Do you know who this couple is?

Madam, we found a camera memory card on Wednesday, January 6th, containing dozens of someone's treasured photos, including a wedding, which they must have dropped in the snow on Roman Way without realising.

If they would like to contact us through the Ross Gazette, we would be more than happy to return it to them. Please find attached one of the photos to help identify whoever lost it.

Too many potholes

MADAM, Having read the Gazette Motoring piece 'For safety's sake check your wheels after driving over potholes', it's sage advice but, having just done the Fownhope run to Hereford one would need tyre balancer station every few hundred yards.

Frankly it might be easier to report the few areas of intact tarmac in the county.'

Roads a mess

Madam, Ref Dave Truscott's letter about potholes in last week's edition. Mr Truscott and his like, experienced local men, did brilliant work keeping our verges trimmed and our roads and lanes pothole free. Since we sold their jobs to foreigners, who often employ indolent and unskilled labour, and for whom the bottom line is key, our roads are a disgusting and lethal mess.
