The Friends of Longhope Church (FOLC) held their Annual General Meeting on Sunday, February 11, marking a significant milestone in the restoration journey of their bell tower.

Over 30 people attended the AGM eager to hear the long-awaited good news.

Tina Coull, the FOLC Chairman, opened the meeting by expressing gratitude to those attending and reflecting on the busy year they had rising funds for the final phase of strengthening works on the Longhope Church Bell Tower.

Tina Coull announced that the FOLC had presented the PCC with over £60,000, and, along with a generous legacy, the ‘Anchor Appeal’, ‘Just Giving Donations’, ‘Grant Donations’ and along with the service from Phil Davis as works project lead keeping the builders on track with costs, the £193,000 funds has been met.

Margaret Willis, on of Longhope’s bell ringers, had the pleasure of chiming one of the bells which had been serviced and re-assembled.

Tina Coull said: “To hear a bell ring from the tower for which has been silent for over three years was very emotional start to what continued to be a very happy & jolly AGM.

“The strengthening anchors have been fitted, the stone work to the grade II listed tower has been extensive repaired and the re-hanging of the bells will be completed early in March, so do not fear!

“The bells will be ringing in good time for the re-dedication service to be held at All Saints Church Longhope on Tuesday 30th April at 7pm, where we have the pleasure of welcoming the Bishop of Tewkesbury, Rt Rev’d Robert, everyone is warmly invited to attend.”

The meeting closed with popping of many large confetti bombs and a big cheer from all! “WE HAVE DONE IT!!”

The Friends of Longhope Church would like to thank everyone for their loyal support shown towards this project over the last few years.
