A section of the M50 near Ross-on-Wye has been closed following a reported fuel spill, causing lengthy delays for motorists.

The eastbound carriageway is shut between junction 4 at the Travellers' Rest roundabout and junction 3 near Newent while the incident is dealt with.

West Mercia Police said the incident appeared to involve a fuel spill. A spokesperson confirmed there were no reports of any injuries or arrests.

Traffic is building on the approach to the closure, with motorists facing delays of almost an hour. Latest traffic information shows queues of around two miles, with average speeds reduced to around 5mph.

One lane was initially reported to be obstructed as emergency services and highways teams responded.

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys and seek alternative routes where possible. Further updates are expected as the incident develops.
