Police in Ross are appealing for sighting of suspicious activity after several vehicles in the town had their tyres darted by vandals, resulting in a total repair bill of £855.
The incidents occurred overnight on Sunday, January 8th, to Monday, January 9th. A Peugeot 206 had all four tyres punctured with a sharp implement in New Street, whilst a Renault van in Walford Road had one tyre vandalised in similar vein.
In Ashfield Crescent, police believe the same vandals darted all four tyres on a Lexus, whilst a nearby Mini received the same treatment to its offside tyres, and the blind-spot mirror attached to the nearside was also torn off and damaged.
Inspector Jim McLaughlin, in charge of policing across South Herefordshire, said: "It amazes me just how mindless some people can be. We are suffering the worst winter weather we have seen for nearly two decades, with all the difficulties that brings. To have car tyres slashed on top of that is inconvenience enough but the use of a vehicle for some, such as doctors and firefighters, is critical. Have these vandals no thought of the consequences of their stupidity?
"Our local policing teams are making enquiries in all the areas concerned to identify possible witnesses and establish forensic opportunities. The police and the people of Ross are not going to stand for this mindless behaviour and we will do all we can to catch those responsible.
He added: "I would urge anyone with any information about these incidents to contact me at Ross Police Station or my colleagues in the Public Service Desk at Hereford as soon as possible."
Anyone with information should call 0300 333 3000 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
