Madam, Further to my recent letter about the long and strange history by which Herefordshire Council has insisted that its own Model Farm land is sold for development, at the same time opening up Ross for huge expansion across the Rudhall Valley, other mysteries arise.

In your next edition you interviewed and pictured a lonely Councillor Harry Bramer posed outside the Model Farm advertising board.

Some time ago he similarly gave sole praise for this development in another newspaper; and it was his lone address to the Herefordshire UDP working group that changed the already investigated and included Over Ross site to Model Farm, with no reasons or details provided.

Has no one else been willing to publicly show support for this town-changing precedent, and so carry the can with Mr Bramer if it causes Ross to become traffic strangled?

May I add that, according to my doctor, my asthma (acquired here) is because Ross is a hot spot for it, in a bowl in the Wye valley, just above the river. He did not disagree that traffic fumes from the close circle of trunk roads and the town centre are a factor.

Yet, strangely, Ross' unique and congested road system is the very reason used to attract massive further development - providing easy access for 2000+ more vehicles to our 'attractive historic town centre'.

If citizens, other than councillors or traders, can see virtue in so big a change to the town where they live, or have chosen to live, why are we not hearing from them?

B J Edwards, Ross
