Madam, In answer to the letter of Wednesday, April 21st, regarding the meat trader at Ross Market. I wish to reply for myself and on behalf of many of my friends.
Market Day in Ross has always been on a Thursday and used to bring lots of shoppers into town. The new trader's associaiton is trying to bring trade back to the town and to our small shops.
It is the beginning of holiday time, when visitors are brought, by coach, into our lovely little town. To see more stalls coming to our market last Thursday was very encouraging, including the small meat van, with all fresh meat, not frozen, at very reasonable prices.
Yes, we have two butchers in the town but this van is only here on Thursdays. And what about the other van which is parked outside the market house on Saturdays selling porkrolls and burgers, and as that letter writer put it, 'covering the market housewalls.'
The cut flower stall has been coming to the market for years, have the florist shops complained? I don't think so. Competition is good for our town and better than encouraging shoppers to go to Morrisons or, out of town, to Labels to buy their meat.
O J Lewis, Peterstow
