From November residents will have their waste collected fortnightly instead of weekly using a new black bin which will be delivered from August. These can be used to safely and hygienically store general rubbish between collections. Residents will receive instructions and a collection calendar ahead of November 2014.
Recycling will then be collected one week and general rubbish will be collected on the other week.
The decision has been taken in order to reduce costs as council budgets reduce and to increase recycling rates to come into line with Government targets.
Cllr Bramer, Cabinet Member for Contracts and Assets said: "This change to alternate weekly collections will save Herefordshire Council in the region of £0.5m per annum. The council is continually looking for ways to deliver more cost effective and efficient services."
