Five 'Hedgehog' teams travelled across the border to Abergavenny on Sunday, July 11th, to join 23 other teams participating in an Open Triples Competition at Abergavenny Petanque Club.
All teams played well, with Hedgehogs Four qualifying for the main competition and Hedgehogs Three qualifying for the plate competition where, after some gruelling games, they finished fourth.
The locals were friendly and not too aggressive in the bid for the title. For some of the Ross members it was their first taste of 'serious' petanque, as they had only been playing for a matter of weeks.
However the sun shone on the hopefuls and much was learned about the rules and regulations of the game whilst enjoying the competitive nature of the game.
Petanque is played at the Ross Bowling Club on Sunday and Thursday mornings from 10.30am and Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm. It is an extremely social game and suits players of all ages and fitness. If you are interested come along and try your hand.
The name of the teams, Hedgehogs, was chosen as it reflects the symbol of Ross and features on the team kit.
