A NEW Film Festival, Ross-on-Wye Flicks in the Sticks is being staged at the town’s Phoenix Theatre and will screen seven films over the next few months.

It’s the Ross theatre’s first film festival, which returns on Sunday, September 27 and will screen five films over the following week, highlighting the best of cinema from around the world, with the remaining two films being shown over the following two months.

The festival returns with the powerful American/Palestinian film ‘All That's Left of You’ which follows a Palestinian family from 1948 to the present day.

Also in the festival are the acclaimed Norwegian movies, Sentimental Value, a French film The Stranger plus two classics Diva and Run, Lola, Run.

The film ‘All That's Left of You’ is in Arabic with subtitles in English. It is directed by Cherien Dabis and starts at 7pm and had its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

The film’s synopsis focuses on the occupied West Bank of the 1980s, when a Palestinian teenager is swept into a protest that changes the course of his family’s life. Reeling from its aftermath, his mother, Hanan, shares the story that led them to that fateful moment. Spanning seven decades, this epic drama traces the hopes and heartaches of one uprooted family, revealing not only the scars of displacement, but the unbreakable spirit of survival.

On Monday, September 28, is the screening of Run Lola Run, an action/thriller in German with subtitles in English.

In this visually and conceptually impressive film, Lola answers a call from her boyfriend Manni, a small-time courier for a big-time gangster. But as the clock ticks down, the tiniest choices become life-altering (or life-ending), and the fine line between fate and fortune begins to blur.

The festival continues on September 30 with Sentimental Value; on October 3, ‘Diva’ and on October 4, ‘The Stranger’.
