WHO should switch on Ross-on-Wye’s Christmas Lights this year?

Ross Town Council is once again looking for someone special from the local community to have the honour of switching on the town’s Christmas Lights.

The festive season will officially get underway in Ross on Sunday, November 29, when the town centre’s Christmas Lights are switched on as part of a full day of festive entertainment at the Ross-on-Wye Christmas Fayre.

Organised by Ross Town Council and sponsored by Westons Cider, the Christmas Fayre will once again bring Broad Street to life, with more than 80 stalls offering a fantastic selection of Christmas gifts, handmade items, food and drink.

Visitors to the town will be able to enjoy a programme of festive entertainment, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.

The highlight of the day will be the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony at 4.30pm, when a member of the local community will be invited to officially turn on the lights in front of the crowds gathered in the town centre.

The town council is now inviting nominations from members of the public for someone who they feel deserves this special honour.

Perhaps you know someone who has given their time to support the local community, gone above and beyond to help others or simply deserves a moment in the spotlight.

Last year’s successful nominee was seven-year-old, Oliver Slater, who spent much of the 2024 festive period in hospital.

The deadline for nominations is 5pm on Friday, October 9, but note that the nominated person must be available on Sunday, November 29 at 4.30pm to perform the Christmas lights switch on ceremony.

The successful person will be selected by the council, the event organisers, and the Christmas Lights switch-on sponsor, JEH Laundry Services.
