A new art installation project is being proposed for the River Wye by a student from John Kyrle High School Sixth Form.

The proposal is for a giant inflatable duck, similar to the one that is in Hong Kong, which will sit on the River Wye in Ross during the summer months (June to August), to attract more tourists to the riverside and the town.

The project, titled ‘Let’s Get Quackers’, is part of the school’s A-Level project for enhancing tourism in the local area.

The student, who does not wish to be named until the decision has been made, told the Ross Gazette: “I hope that the project is well received by the locals and tourists alike as a lot of planning has been involved in the project so far.”

Consultations will be taking place with the AONB and the Environment Agency, as well as with Natural England as the River Wye is considered an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). The locations being proposed are either by the Ropewalk area, however there are concerns this will interfere with rowers from the Rowing Club, or just before Wilton Bridge to welcome visitors when they arrive in the town.

The student is aiming to finish the proposal and to get it sent today, Saturday, April 1st. The decision is expected to take up to two weeks.
