Some local residents are delighted that new play equipment has been installed for youngsters in Roman Way but not everyone is happy as the height of the climbing frame and proximity to people's houses means that youngsters can see into their homes.

One very upset lady telephoned The Ross Gazette to say they she had not been told that the equipment was being placed in the playground and she was not given any opportunity to suggest that it should be moved slightly so that the young people who use it cannot see in through her windows.

The new play items were installed after Herefordshire Council received a government grant of more than £1.1m to provide play opportunities for the county's children at 22 sites over the next two years.

The Roman Way project in Ross was one of the first to be developed.

A spokesman for the Council said: "Local children and young people were asked how they would like to play outside and what type of equipment would they like to play on. In response to their ideas and requests, four exciting new pieces of equipment have been purchased and installed alongside existing equipment at the park.

"The council has received positive reports on the success of the new equipment from children, young people and residents. However, we are listening to any concerns about the location of the new climbing frame and are meeting with local residents to explore a number of options, including the relocation of the piece of equipment. In the meantime the council is urging young people playing in the area to respect the privacy of neighbouring properties."
