Ross Town Councillors agreed to continue holding weekly surgeries at Ross Library until Christmas, but a committee will be discussing whether they are a sensible use of Councillor’s time.
The policy and management committee will discuss the current format and possible new thoughts on how to engage with the public.
Councillor Phil Cutter told the meeting about a bad experience he had recently at the surgery he had attended and said that he will not do it again.
Councillor Chris Bartrum said it is only one hour every 16 weeks and if you don’t want to do it don’t go on the rota.
Councillor Jenny Hyde said:?“I am not unwilling to do it, I don’t begrudge an hour of my time, but not if it is a danger.”
Councillor Gren said:?“All my contact details are on the website, if people want to speak to me then they can find me.”
Councillor Daniel Lster said there is a usually a mix of people and it is important to carry on.
Councillor Cutter added that when the County Councillor held surgeries the police were in attendance, he did not feel Councillors should be alone and was also concerned for people who work in the library.
Councillor David Ravenscroft said the main questions he has dealt with have tended to be regarding matters which are the responsibility of Herefordshire Council, but people can be given information from the website.
Councillor Richard Mayo and Councillor Valerie Coker explained that due to work commitments they cannot attend.
Councillor Caroline Utting said that she agreed with Cllr Bartrum, those who could do it and wished to continue should do so.
