Former Mayor of Hereford, Jim Kenyon, has decided to quit his political party.

He said It’s Our County, ‘is not for him anymore’ but says he will continue as a councillor.

Councillor Kenyon was first elected to Hereford City Council and Herefordshire Council for the Tupsley ward for the newly formed It’s Our County party in 2011.

Cllr Kenyon was re-elected to both authorities in 2015 with one of the largest majorities in the county.

In 2016-17 he served as mayor of Hereford and stood as an independent candidate for the Hereford and South constituency at last year’s general election.

Cllr Kenyon said: “I want to get my teeth into something different and am now making other plans for the future. It’s Our County is not for me anymore”.

It’s Our County group leader Councillor Anthony Powers said: “Jim is his own man, and always will be.

“He’s championed the cause of many Herefordians over the years, always fighting for justice, most recently in the widely-publicised case of a homeless ex-serviceman.

“I thank him for all he has done as a councillor for his community and the city, and we all wish him well for the future.”
