Three people have been nominated for the election of a Ross-on-Wye East Ward Councillor.
They are Paul Symonds, Terry Prince and Thomas Small. The Gazette invited each of the candidates to tell readers a little about themselves and why the residents of East Ward should vote for them.
The election will be held on June 14th and there will be three polling stations. The polling stations, which will be open from 7am until 10pm, are The Venue, Hill Street, Tudorville & District Community Centre and the Larruperz Community Centre.
Terry Prince is the Labour candidate
I was born in the Black Country before moving to South Africa I was the Chief Civil Engineer for a town with a population of 30,000 people. I returned to England in 2016 for my retirement. I am now a Pilates instructor. I want to use my experience working for local government to work for all the people of the East ward.
Ross-on-Wye Town Council acquired assets like the Market Hall and car parks from Herefordshire County Council. The Town Council didn’t think very carefully about what this would mean for Ross Council Tax payers.
What’s now happened is that the Ross Council precept on our Council Tax has increased by 27% without any other reduction in our Council Tax. We’re paying more for the same or less.
Labour would have opposed that move. Now that we are in this situation it’s more important than ever that the Ross Town Council is held to account about how it spends our Council Tax. My professional experience will help get Ross residents the best possible deal.
I will hold Councillor surgeries which some Conservatives on the Council refuse to do.
I think Ross-on-Wye is a great place to live and I want to try and improve it for everyone.
