The county’s care leavers may be entitled to extra support with household bills following a decision by Herefordshire Council to grant a discount towards council tax bills.

From November 1st, 2018, young people who have left the council’s care system will be able to apply for a new care leaver’s discount that may see some people having nothing to pay.

Care leavers may be eligible for the council tax discount if they are aged between 18 and 25 years, and have been in the care of Herefordshire Council for at least 13 weeks from the age of 14. They also have to be liable for council tax, or a share of council tax, on a dwelling in Herefordshire.
