A ROAD in Ross-on-Wye could undergo a £25,000 resurfacing scheme as part of plans to improve the town's highways and pedestrian routes.

Ross-on-Wye Town Council is considering proposals to resurface a section of Merivale Lane, stretching from its junction with Alton Street to number 16 Merrivale Lane.

The work, estimated to cost approximately £25,000, has been recommended by the council's Planning and Development Sub-Committee for funding through the Extraordinary Market Town Maintenance Fund.

The proposals also include improvements to a footpath alongside Ashfield Park Primary School, where repairs and vegetation clearance have been identified as potential projects.

The council is seeking further information from Herefordshire Council about the cost of carrying out the footpath improvements before deciding whether the additional work can proceed.

Funding for the footpath scheme would depend on the overall cost of the resurfacing project and the amount remaining within the available maintenance budget.

The proposals form part of efforts to improve the condition of roads and pedestrian routes around Ross, particularly in areas used regularly by local residents and schoolchildren.

The Merivale Lane scheme would focus on the section connecting with Alton Street, while the separate footpath improvements would address maintenance requirements near the primary school.

The council's Deputy Clerk is expected to arrange discussions with Herefordshire Council to establish the likely expenditure involved in repairing the footpath and removing vegetation.

Both projects will be considered by the Full Council at its meeting on Monday, October 12, when councillors will decide whether to support the recommendations.

If approved, the resurfacing scheme would represent a significant investment in maintaining local infrastructure, although a timetable for the proposed work has not yet been confirmed.

Further details about the projects are expected following the council's consideration of the proposals.
