One of our readers recently asked whether pot holes can be fixed and filled privately, by means of hiring and paying for a contractor themselves.
In response to this, a spokesperson for Herefordshire Council said: “If residents are concerned about a pothole near where they live, they should report it to Herefordshire Council via our website.
“In addition a number of Parish Councils are using locally generated funding for pothole repairs, through our enhanced Lengthsman scheme. There are currently over 100 parishes participating in the Lengthsman scheme, utilising their budgets to employ local contractors familiar with the area to carry out maintenance.”
They added: “We do not encourage employing private contractors to carry out road repairs due to the complexities involved. However, individuals should contact Balfour Beatty Living Places acting on behalf of Herefordshire Council as the Highway Authority to discuss requirements if they feel there is specific need.”
