Mischief and health are just two of the new year’s goals some Gazette readers have set for 2023.

The new year provides an opportunity for many to reflect on their successes and achievements though the year past and identify opportunities for growth in the new. By providing a rigid time-frame for planning goals and reflection provides less opportunity to put off making meaningful and positive life changes.

Readers were asked what their new year’s resolutions were. Here are some of the responses.

Mary Hawkins’s is to not make any new year’s resolutions.

Alexander Mellor’s is to: “get my new kidney and have a happy and filling life with my family.”

Jill Steve Ireland plans to have a “riotous time and get into a lot of mischief” in 2023.

Some people recommend a new year’s “theme”. Rather that strict goals, they select an aspect of their life—eg finances, health, etc—to focus on improving in the new year.
