AUCTIONEERS RG and RB Williams report a short entry of clean cattle at its livestock auction in Ross-on-Wye on August 11 with them topping at £2,426.
Auctioneer William Probert observed that more cattle could have easily been sold to this trade with well-fleshed sorts selling between 370p and 420p per kilogramme.
The top vendors were DM & CS Andrews of Glen Court Farm, DE & SJ Cheacker, of Ostbridge Manor Farm and M & J Freeman Farming of Home Farm.
A good entry of cull cows soared to 322p per kilogramme and topped at £2,125 and generally well meated cows sold at an average of £1,277 per head.
The top vendors were CE & EC Freeman of Vain Farm and RP & SJ Scrivens of Greenway Farm.
A shorter entry of lambs met a blistering trade from start to finish peaking at £194. The entry saw well finished lambs sell between 360p and 374p per kilogramme.
Heavy lambs attracted strong demand while those weighing over 48 kilogrammes sold from between £170 and £194.
More lambs could have been sold to this electric trade.
The top vendors were N & I Bevan of Trothlands Farm, C Simcock & Sons of The Green, D A Davies of Winters Farm and W M Watkins & Sons of Upper House Farm.
A short entry of cull ewes and rams met a fast trade, peaking at £163. The entry of ewes was dominated by leaner sorts however they sold between £120 and £150.
The top vendors were D F Griffiths of Hillend Farm, B F Fisher of Little Oaklands Farm and S D Pearman of Mittons Lodge Farm.
A forthcoming sale is being held on Thursday, August 21 for the annual auction of 500 Lleyn Sheep on behalf of the Lleyn Sheep Society.
