Dear Editor,

It is 15 years ago this month that my sister-in-law, Mary Dew died. She was Mayor of Ross in 1986 and I was her Mayoress.

The photographs of her in the Gazette last week would have made her smile.

She was not sitting in a pram, but a bath. She was Chair of the Friends of the Chestnuts (now no longer a care home), and they had raised £2,170 to provide and install a specially made bath for the elderly residents. Also in the picture was a lady standing just behind the Mayor who was 100-years-old. We had visited Miss Florence Evans on her birthday the previous August.

The other picture of a presentation from that year was of a British Legion event when poppy collectors are seen receiving certificates. I am in the picture receiving a brooch for 17 years of poppy selling from General Sir Thomas Pearson who was Branch President.

Others in that picture are Mr F Pugh, Branch Chairman, Mrs V Pascoe, Mr H Maddocks, Mrs A Sonn, for Haigh, Mrs A McCall, Mrs L Jacobs and Mrs M Steward, organiser.

It is lovely to remember old times and I congratulate the Ross Gazette on 150 years reporting. Long may it continue.
