A road that only reopened in March after a 13-month closure is set to be shut again for resurfacing works.

Herefordshire Council said the B4424 in Fownhope would be closed for a total of five days. The road was closed from February 2020 from Fiddler’s Green after Storm Dennis. It eventually reopened earlier this year.

The storm caused a 6.5 metre wide landslip and a partial collapse of a 100-metre retaining wall.

It was originally thought that works to repair the damage would take six months.

Highways bosses were forced to apologise, with ward councillor John Hardwick raising a formal complaint on behalf of residents.

Now only five months after reopening, the road will shut again. A letter from contractor Balfour Beatty Living Places said the road would close between Scotch Firs and Lower House Gardens.

The road will also be closed between Mordiford to Fownhope at Fiddler's Green.

Access to homes and businesses will be maintained "as much as possible," said Balfour Beatty.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you," the contractor added. The work was originally pencilled to take place this month, but will now happen later.
