The Ropewalk Playground Project has received a cheque for £897 from Waitrose thanks to their Community Matters scheme. Debbie Brooks, a member of the Ropewalk group who works at Waitrose in Monmouth came up with the idea and put it into action.

Through its Community Matters scheme Waitrose donates £1,000 every month divided between three local causes, as nominated by customers and partners.

Customers receive a green token when they shop which they can put in the box belonging to the cause of choice. Luckily for the Ropewalk December's donation was trebled because, instead of making a 'fancy TV advert', Waitrose decided to donate the money saved as an additional £1m to good causes. This is on top of the £600,000 it would normally donate to local good causes through the initiative during November and December.
