Madam, One wet Saturday morning recently I tripped over a kerb in Walford Road, landing heavily on my cheek bone and losing my glasses. An elderly couple came immediately to my aid, retrieved the glasses and gave me a wad of tissues to stem the blood. In my confusion I didn't get their names but, through your columns, I should like to thank them for their great kindness and concern.

More recently my wife and I were shopping in the town centre and everywhere received courteous, efficient and cheerful service in all the shops we visited.

These are the special qualities which justified our decision many years ago to move to the area in retirement. I know that many other 'incomers' feel the same way after the anonymity of big cities. This is what gives us all the confidence to promote Ross-on-Wye as a good and worthwhile place to visit.
