AUCTIONEERS RG and RB Williams report a large entry at the livestock market in Ross-on-Wye on June 9 which met a fast trade from start to finish, peaking at £3,069.90 for steers.
The entry was made up by some quality Continentals selling from 390p – 405ppkg. Heavy weight cattle peaked at £3,069 with stronger steers and heifers selling between £2,500 - £3,000.
The top vendor was GH & GG Savidge of Dean Common Farm.
A nice entry of cull cows met a firm trade peaking at 292ppkg - £1990. A number of cows sold from 250p – 280ppkg. The beef cows sold between £1,500 and £1,990. The overall average price of cull cows was £1,818 per head. The top vendors were J Watkins of Brook Farm and MR and DM Watkins of Ballingham Hall.
Auctioneer William Probert said that a nice entry of lambs met a fast trade despite the fall in trade from the previous week peaking at £164.50.
Best quality lambs sold to a top of 395ppkg with many well meated Continentals selling from 370p – 395ppkg. A larger entry of heavier lambs at 44kgs selling from £160 - £164. The overall average price of lambs was £154/head. The top vendors were D W Dale & Son of Boars Hill Farm and B Blandford and sons of Mayfields Farm.
A shorter entry of cull ewes was a result of following the festival, but prices soared to £185 per head. The entry was dominated by leaner sorts. Well meated continentals constantly sold between £160 and £185 per head while leaner ewes sold between £90 and £135.
The average price was of ewes was £120. top vendors were H H Williams & Son of Red Barn Farm and VM and DJ Gunter of Cowsmeadow Farm.
