Ross Quilters met recently to celebrate their successful exhibition which was held at the beginning of September and announce the winner of the Visitor’s Choice competition.

A wonderful exhibition of quilts and other textiles was held at Upton Bishop Millennium Hall. There were 62 quilts and wall-hangings on display, along with cushions, bags, geese, Christmas items, tablecloths, mats and much more. Guests enjoyed choosing the quilt that most took their fancy and it emerged that Wendy Reynolds’ African Memories Quilt was the favourite.

Drinks and homemade cakes helped to sustain the 392 visitors as they admired the creative use of pattern, colour, fabric and thread. Each quilt had a story explaining the inspiration and intention of the maker which added to the interest of the display. Handmade cards were welcome prizes at the tombola table.

A double bed-sized quilt, made jointly by all the members of the group, was raffled in aid of the Breast Cancer Haven in Hereford. More than £700 was raised for this charity; the quilt was won by Chris Cherington who, as a member, will cherish her group’s work for many years to come.

At the recent meeting, Ross quilters also welcomed several new members as a result of the exhibition, but has had to start a waiting list as there just isn’t enough room for more than 40 in the Hall. If you are interested in joining the waiting list please contact the membership secretary, Marilyn Reynolds [email protected]
