ROSS-on-Wye Town Council has been recognised at the recent Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Awards.

The ceremony, held at the National Memorial Arboretum, brought together organisations from across the West Midlands which have been recognised for their commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.

Representing Ross Town Council at the ceremony were Town Clerk, Carla Boyles and Councillor Richard McEvoy.

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme recognises employers who demonstrate their support for defence personnel, including veterans, reservists, service leavers, cadet force adult volunteers and military families.

Ross Town Council was awarded the Silver Award in recognition of its commitment to supporting members of the Armed Forces community, both within the Council and through its work within the local community.

Ross Town Council was invited to attend the ceremony, following the council’s successful achievement of the Silver Award earlier this year.

A particular focus of the Council’s support is the Armed Forces Support Hub, held twice monthly at the Town Council Offices in partnership with Herefordshire Veterans Support Centre.

The hub takes place on the first and third Tuesday of every month, providing a

welcoming space where anyone with connections to the Armed Forces community can access advice, support, guidance and community connection.

Town Clerk, Ms Boyles, said: “It was a real privilege to attend the Silver Awards ceremony at the National Memorial Arboretum and to see Ross Town Council formally recognised alongside other employers from across the West Midlands.

“The Silver Award reflects the council’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community and recognising the valuable contribution made by veterans, reservists, service leavers, military families and others connected to the Armed Forces.

“We are particularly pleased to be able to support veterans locally through our Armed Forces Support Hub, and we look forward to continuing to develop our work in this area.”
