MADAM, As one of the two current town clock winders, I have been asked repeatedly why the clock hasn't been working over the past week.

The County Council have gained access to a grant which has enabled them to fit a self winding mechanism to the clock as climbing the ladder to the loft and cranking the large handle to wind the clock and chiming bell each week can be a risky business.

This work is going to take a few days to complete but when done, the new gizmo will take over and even adjust the clock to British Summer Time and back each year. So please have patience it will be working again soon.
