Local landlord Adrian Shaw has been searching for new ways to increase business at his country pub, the New Harp Inn at Hoarwithy.
As running costs of a pub are very high he looked for a cost effective solution and decided to ask a local farmer for permission to erect a sign directing drivers on the A49 to the pub. However putting up the sign has led him to a dispute with Herefordshire Council. They have informed him that the sign was erected without having any advertisement consent. "As such, the owners of the New Harp Inn, Hoarwithy, were advised that they could face a fine of up to £1,000 under section 224 of the Town and Country Planning Act as it is illegal to display such signs without permission."
