The St Weonards and District branch of the Royal British Legion have positioned a ‘Silent Soldier’ by the side of the A49, to commemorate the end of World War I. They are grateful to Mr and Mrs Philip Watkins for permission to fix the memorial in place.
The Royal British Legion Silent Soldier campaign honours British troops who fought and died in the First World War 100 years ago.
Near life-size silhouettes of a First World War ‘Tommy’ will be fixed on buildings, gardens, fields, and roundabouts across the country, in remembrance of those in the armed forces who came home ‘silently’ from the war, as well as those who never made it home.
