Following Iceland announcing early shopping for elderly people this Wednesday, Herefordshire Council has worked with local bus service providers to help shoppers who use public transport.
Cllr John Harrington, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Transport, said: “We are pleased to announce that, on Wednesday, March 18th concessionary bus passes will be accepted on all Yeomans bus services from 7.30am, instead of the usual 9.30am. This will allow free travel for those with concessionary passes to do their essential shopping, and hopefully make life a little easier during this difficult time.
“It is a lovely gesture by Iceland to create this nationwide provision specifically for elderly people, who are most at risk from COVID-19. Many elderly people rely on buses to get out and about, and it would be awful to see anybody miss out on priority shopping due to restrictions on their bus pass.
“I would like to offer a huge thank you to Yeomans for their support and Your Herefordshire for relaying this request to the Council.”
