The cast for The Goal, a Courtyard production in partnership with Hereford Football Club has been announced.

Set in 1970s Hereford, The Goal relives the story of Ronnie Radford’s notorious 35-yard goal scored at The Meadow End from the perspective of six ball boys; Chris, Bob, Dan, Yorkie, Twig (Phillip) and Brian.

Joining the cast is James Holmes of Miranda fame. James’ extensive list of television credits includes appearances in Peep Show, The Catherine Tate Show and The Office and he has also established an illustrious stage career with performances in Lady in the Van and The Importance of Being Earnest. James will be taking on the part of Bob, a Hereford boy, born and raised, a fastidious lad who takes his responsibilities as a Hereford United ball boy incredibly seriously.

Returning to Hereford is Kate Powell who has previously performed in Courtyard productions. Kate will be playing kind and stoical teenager, Danielle ‘Dan’ Beech alongside Tom Bevan (Holby City) in the role of Chris, Ewan Goddard (Doctors) in the role of Twig, Matthew Booth (Emmerdale) as Yorkie and Charlie Quirke (Birds of a Feather) in the role of Brian.

The cast of six will also be portraying a host of other characters in this bittersweet comedy that celebrates one of the most monumental seasons in Hereford’s history.

Chief Executive and Artistic Director of The Courtyard, Ian Archer, who is also directing The Goal said: “I am thrilled to welcome six fabulous actors to Hereford for the World Premiere of The Goal. Casting the company for The Goal has been a wonderful experience and every character has an individual significance to the play.”
