Dear Editor,

Just how long do we long suffering motorists have to wait for Walford Road to be properly resurfaced? It is now an absolute disgrace, and dangerous.

I have a mobility scooter and have several times had the steering tiller almost rived out of my hands – its seven inch diameter wheels do not take kindly to the myriad ruts and potholes, and when I am using the car it is almost as bad.

It is a very poor advertisement to tourists visiting Ross, just how bad does it have to get before this road is properly resurfaced, and why has it been left so long?

Fred Willingham, Ross-on-Wye

Editors note: Mr Willingham is not the first Ross resident to raise concerns about the condition of Walford Road. In October the Gazette asked Herefordshire Council if there were any plans to resurface the road.

A spokesman told the Ross Gazette:?“Walford Road had previously been surveyed by Balfour Beatty Living Places and found to be in a condition that did not merit its treatment ahead of other sites included in our annual plan. Balfour Beatty Living Places is currently carrying out site inspections for next year’s annual plan and will survey Walford Road again as part of those inspections.

“Next year’s draft annual plan currently does not feature Walford Road, as there are other higher priority locations around the County, this position may change following its inspection. Three sites in Ross Town were treated as part of this year’s annual plan, Broad Street, Brook End Street and Trenchard Street.”
