A Wellingtonia tree which had died due to disease had to be felled in Ross on Tuesday, August 29th.

Tree Surgeons removed all the branches before taking off the top.

The company asked the Ross Gazette to post a message on our Facebook page letting people know that they could collect the wood which is highly prized by sculptors and wood carvers.

The Gazette understands that lots of residents took up this offer and Anita Fox posted a message on the Ross Gazette Facebook page. She said:?“Thank you so much for posting this information about the tree. I have just been to visit them and traded some cakes for a slice of the tree, to be used for the base of my son’s wedding cake!”

The neighbouring tree, which is also a Wellingtonia, has also started to show signs of disease and may also have to be removed.
