Two dedicated local mums, Laura Hurcombe and Kirsty Jones, ran an ultra-marathon earlier this month, on July 15th and 16th, to raise funds for Whitchurch CE Primary School to develop a Multi Terrain Outdoor Play Area for the pupils.
Months of training were put to the test as Laura and Kirsty faced the epic fitness challenge; both mums ran 100k, approximately 64 miles, at the Race to the Stones. This event was a journey from the Chilterns to the mystical North Wessex Downs, past mighty Iron Age forts, ancient monuments and through some of Britain’s most stunning landscapes and finished at the towering stones of Avebury.
After their ultra-marathon, both Kirsty and Laura sustained several large, painful blisters, and felt stiff and tired in the days that followed, but were both very pleased by what they had achieved for the school.
Kirsty told the Ross Gazette: “Laura finished in about 18 hours and I finished in 25 hours. To be honest, we both still can’t believe we did it.”
Laura and Kirsty say that they are just ordinary mums and unlikely runners. They both work full time and love a glass of wine or a G&T and chips after a long run.
So far, the Whitchurch mums have raised more than £4,200. Their online donation page is still live, if you would like to make a donation, please click here.
