A possible move for Ross swimming Pool has been a major talking point in the town since the Ross Gazette revealed that local Councillors would like Herefordshire Council to consider other options.

The Ross Gazette asked for comments from our readers last week and we have received them. On the whole the feeling seems to be that although many people would like to see more made of the current site they are happy with things the way they are.

One Gazette reader, Michael Field, was clear about his feelings: "The present facilities are in a good position and available to everyone - at reasonable hours," he said. "John Kyrle school is a large establishment with a large number of students. Clearly, if a pool was provided there, the students would expect to get first call on the facilities. When would the public be allowed access?"

He told the Gazette that he supports the idea of combining the pool with other youth provisions. However he is concerned that as Red Meadow is just that much further from the town centre the new facility would need to be attractive enough to draw young people to it.

He concluded:?"In the past we have seen little money spent on towns such as Ross and Leominster and I would hope that this feasibility study is not one more move to find more money to pour in to the County Town of Hereford at our expense. Please excuse my cynicism."

The Ross Gazette also asked users of the pool what they thought. "It's stupid moving the pool," said a dad and his toddler son. "Nothing wrong with it here."

And a young mum and toddler daughter thought that: "As long as it is as good as it is here and not too far then I haven't got a problem with it. I suppose it would stop you going to town. We use it quite and lot and travel from the Forest to use the pool."

ART chairperson, David MacGregor, has said ART will discuss it and the possible impact on the town and businesses at their next meeting. "We have no concrete information yet," said Mr MacGregor, "and until we get all the details it is difficult to make a comment. Howard and Angela, who were visiting a charity shop said: "The pool should stay where it is because it is central. Don't see point in moving it."

However, although the results of the Gazette website poll are limited, those who voted were strongly in favour of a move.
