ANTHONY James fired 58 and Mohamed Dilshad took three wickets for Aston Ingham 1sts on Saturday, but couldn't prevent the villagers slipping to a three-wicket loss at Oxfordshire hosts Langford.

James batting at three was the only Aston player to beat the 20 mark in the West of England Premier match, firing 10 fours in his 97-ball knock.

Best of the rest as the visitors reached 185-9 in 50 overs were Josh Loade 19, Oliver Henson 18, Angus Bartlett 17, and Dilshad and Sam Didcote 16.

Aston then reduced Langford to 20-3 and looked on course with the hosts at 83-7.

But a 103-run eighth-wicket partnership denied them as Langford reached 186-7 with 11 overs to spare, Dilshad taking 3-36-9 and James 2-23-9, and Gus Carini-Roberts grabbing three catches.

But the 2nds squeezed home by two wickets on the last ball at home to Lydney 2nds, Jenson Arrowsmith firing a six to overhaul the 124 all out target by three runs.

The last ball hero had earlier taken three wickets, while Simon Clark took 4-7-8 and Tom Day two.

Aston lost both openers for ducks, but Mark Mathias with 23, Clyde Breetzke 25 and Sam Fitzmaurice 32 put them back in the game before Arrowsmith’s winning six in an unbeaten 17, with Aston finishing on 127-8.

The 3rds were more comfortable eight-wicket winners at home to Dymock 2nds, reaching 92-2 in 18 overs after dismissing the visitors for 91.

Will Kelsall and Simon King took four wickets apiece, before Leo Lockwood with 47 not out and former National Hunt jockey Tom Scudamore an unbeaten 17 guided them home.

Midweek also brought a 37-run Twenty20 Gloucester Evening League home win over Newent.

Aston reached 153-6 off their 20 overs, Mohamed Dilshad (not out) and Alex Cluley scoring 22s, Clyde Breetzke 21 and Sam Fitzmaurice 20 as Ben Ward and Mike Mason took wicket braces.

And Newent were then restricted to 116-3, Ollie Corston scoring 46 and Ben Allard 34 in the losing cause, while Isaac Goulding, Dilshad and Mike Thorn took the wickets.

But the Forest Hundred side lost by eight wickets away to Monmouth Menaces the same night, despite hitting a respectable 144-7.

Tim Dulson scored an unbeaten 33, Josh Henson 22, Will Green 19 and Angus Bartlett 15, but the hosts raced to 146-2 with 13 balls to spare, skipper Ben Pilot with 52 and Matthew Jones 54 not out.

Newent 1st bounced back from midweek defeat though to win by 22 runs at Churchdown on Saturday.

Jack Cowles hit 59, Neil Roche 40, Ollie Corston 37 and Luke Merchant 33 as Newent reached 248-6 off 40 overs before dismissing the hosts for 226 in the 39th over, Wayne Phillips taking three wickets, and Ben Allard and Josh Hayes two apiece.

Newent Lions with 245-5 also beat visitors Tewkesbury 4ths (167-2) by 78 runs, Josh Ralph scoring 52 and Paul Carter 46.

And the 3rds (349-5) won by 199 runs at home to Westbury 3rds (150 all out), Gary Smeaton blasting 147 off just 66 balls, backed by Will Pettipher with 70 and Corey Smeaton an unbeaten 46.
